The origin of an ‘answer’
The word “answer” comes from the Old English word “andswaru”, which means “a reply or response to a question”. It is derived from the prefix “and-” meaning “against” and the root “swaran” meaning “to swear, to affirm”. Over time, the spelling and pronunciation of the word evolved to become what we know today as “answer”.
